They first came on the scene in 1980, when Axl Rose (born Bill Bailey) moved to LA in search of fame in rock n roll. He started a band with himself, guitarist Izzy Stradlin' (born Jeffrey Isbell), they joined with guitarist Tracii Guns, and Drummer Rob Garner, in a band that was successively named, A-X-L, Rose, Hollywood Roses, and LA Guns. They finally combined the last two to make Guns 'n' Roses.

Guns and Garner left the band, and in their place came two members or a rival band, Road Crew, drummer Steven Adler, and guitarist Slash (born Saul Hudson). Soon after this, bassist Michael 'Duff' McKagen joined the band, and they released an EP 'Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide' on the imprint 'Uzi Suicide' label, which was funded by their major label Geffen.

In 1987, their official debut release 'Appetite for Destruction' soon hit the headlines when it caused controversy over the cover image on the sleeve, a painting of a woman who has been terrorised by a robot. Geffen moved this image onto the inside of the sleeve soon after. The abum still produced three top 10 singles - 'Welcome to the Jungle', 'Sweet Child O' Mine', and 'Paradise City', which took the record to the top of the album charts and got sales of more than 20 million worldwide.

Problems in the had already arrived, as Adler had to be replace on a tour when he broke his hand, and Rose was fired when he didn't turn up for a show in Phoenix. He was soon reinstated, but then two fans were crushed to death during the GNR set at the Monsters of Rock festival in England.

Geffen re-released the 'Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide' EP but with 4 additional acoustic tracks. 'One In A Million', which is Rose's personal feelings on particular groups of people, 'You're Crazy', which appears here in the original slow format after a faster, louder version was recorded for the 'Appetite for Destruction' album. 'Used To Love Her', which contains the line 'Used to love her/but i had to kill her' and has been commented on by the band as 'just a joke', and the 'Patience' the hit.

Soon enough the band became the template for bad boy rock. Stradlin' was arrested for taking a wizz in the gallery of an aeroplane, Rose went through a dodgy marriage to Erin Everly, daughter of singer Don Everly, Slash and Duff accepted a trophy on the American Music Awards, but did so while giving out obscenities that were broadcast live to the whole American nation. Stories of heroine abuse surrounding the band and in 1990, Adler was forced out of the band alleedgedly because of his drug abuse. Next Rose was arrested for alledgedly hitting a woman with a bottle after she told him to turn his stereo down.

In 1991, the band recruited 2 new members, drummer Matt Sorum, and keyboard player Dizzy Reed. The band hit the raod but trouble followed as Rose compared Indianapolis residents to 'prisoners at Auschwitz', and started a riot at St Louis' Riverport Amphitheatre, then angrily cutting the concert short. The brand new venue was left with $200,000 damage.

In Autumn 1991, the 'Use Your Illusion' albums were released separately, and they soon occupied the top two slots of the Billboard Charts, driven by several hits, 'You Could Be Mine', 'Live And Let Die' (a cover of the Wings hit), 'Don't Cry', and 'November Rain'. The vidoe for'November Rain' featured Rose's lover at the time, model Stephanie Seymour.

At the end of the year Izzy quit the band, fed up with Rose's erratic ways, and was replaced with Gilby Clarke.

In 1992 GNR performed at the Freddie mercury tribute concert, amongst protests by gay activists and other groups who were offended by 'One In A Million'.

In Montreal there was another riot. Durin a show where Metallica's set was cut short because James Hetfield was burned by on-stage pyrotechnics, Axl ended GNR's set after 15 minutes because the sound wasn't up to scratch.

After that it became hard to tell if GNR's world was good or bad. Axl split with Seymour causing a bunch of lawsuits and countersuits. The group released 'The Spaghetti Incident' which contained a hidden track written by mass murderer Charles Manson. As Axl became involved in many legal cases, the band only released on other song, a cover of the Rolling Stones' track 'Sympathy for the Devil' for the 'Interview with the Vampire' soundtrack. The band began to splinter.

Slash appeared on Bob Dylan, and Michael Jackson records amongst others, and formed his own band, 'Slash's Snakepit'. Duff also went solo, with Sorum, and ex-Sex Pistols member Steve jones in 'Neurotic Outsiders'. Clarke was fired, and Rose, who left the band for a time, returned and took control of the GNR name, then eventually dismissed Slash, Duff, and Sorum.

The current Guns 'n' Roses lineup has an album being made, but is nowhere in sight, and has gone through so many producers. Fans of the old Guns 'n' Roses will have to be satisfied by the 'Live Era '87-'93' album that has now been released.

To: Cleveland, Ohio, Guns N' Roses Fans and everyone who's shown support for my decision regarding the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
I seriously didn't plan on or expect the overwhelmingly positive response and public support for my decision regarding the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. With such a generous outpouring of solidarity from fans, media outlets, writers and other artists, I'm truly humbled, blown away and unbelievably relieved! To be honest, I thought it would go the other way and was just hoping to weather the storm. As I said, I sincerely didn't want to disappoint anyone. It gets old being the outlaw even if "it's only rock and roll".
It took a lot of focus and soul searching to be sincere and informative while making a genuine effort to be somewhat diplomatic. We made, what I feel, are real efforts to learn about the Hall and the Board, spoke as I said with the president and various members, and though I inducted Elton John and Bernie Taupin in '94 saying something to the effect of "I'm learning what the Hall's about..."
I still don't exactly know or understand what the Hall is or how or why it makes money, where the money goes, who chooses the voters and why anyone or this board decides who, out of all the artists in the world that have contributed to this genre, officially "rock" enough to be in the Hall?
This isn't an attack. These are genuine issues I don't have enough verified information on to have more than rough ideas. Certainly not enough information to make any judgments about.
I would like to apologize to Cleveland, Ohio for not apologizing to them beforehand for not attending [the ceremony] in their city. I think they know how much I genuinely love performing there. Cleveland does in fact Rock!!
Now that the smoke's cleared a little, any desperate, misguided attacks have been just that, a pathetic stab at gossip, some lame vindictiveness, the usual entitlement crap, he's obsessed, crazy, volatile, a hater. I once bought a homeless woman a slice of pizza who yelled at me she wanted soup. We got her the soup. You can get your own.
Again: HUGE thanks to the fans and to everyone for the incredible public support. My congratulations to the other artists inducted. And my apologies to the city and people of Cleveland, Ohio. I hope you'll forgive me and we hope to see you again soon!

Obama’s Incompetence May Fuel Racial Violence

In 2009, President Barack Obama hosted the “Beer Summit” in the Rose Garden of the White House in what was touted as an attempt to improve race relations in the aftermath of the arrest of a black professor by a white police officer.

The election of Barack Obama was seen as a pivotal moment of the 21^st century: an opportunity for America to be healed by a black President who embraced the ideals needed for a new America.
There was a comedy about ancient Rome titled “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” More recently, a funny thing happened on the way to the Oval Office. After the new President was anointed by the mass media and leading celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, America’s emperor was shown to be naked. Everyone on both sides of the racial divide has an opinion about why Obama is being attacked.
A great many African-Americans represented by the likes of the Reverend Jesse Jackson preach that white Americans refuse to show Obama the proper respect and go along with his programs simply because he is black. However, a great many white Americans, and maybe even right-minded people of all races, are angry at the President after he demonstrated his incompetence over the past three years. Tens of millions of Americans don’t like Obama not because he is black but because he has pushed America into the red.
Like the Elton John song, “I’ve Seen That Movie Too,” I saw it begin with the election of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, a francophone and constitutional lawyer who became a rock star north of America’s border in 1968.
Trudeau was Canada’s Prime Minister from 1968 to 1979 and from 1980 to 1984. Trudeau changed Canada with a radical new socialism. And the weapon used against his English Canadian critics was that they were simply prejudiced, that they refused to see all the good that Trudeau was doing for Canada. In fact, if you were bold enough to oppose Trudeau’s Official Languages Act (1969) you were downright anti-French.
Regardless of the onslaught that Trudeau orchestrated over 16 years, his liberal supporters and the Liberal Party met all such claims that critics were anti-French.
It took Canada’s economy 20 years to recover from Trudeau, who not only imposed his ideals on a nation but divided French and English more than any Canadian Prime Minister.
Trudeau almost broke up the confederation.

One year after Trudeau took office, French and English were both declared the official languages of Canada.
In 1970, terrorist separatists kidnapped and murdered Quebec’s minister of labor and immigration, Pierre Laporte. The federal government ordered in troops and suspended civil liberties.
The party that pledged Quebec separatism won the 1976 provincial election and passed several measures to strengthen the movement.
Quebec voters narrowly rejected secession from Canada in a 1995 referendum, but many in the province are still pushing for separation.

If you think that I am not giving Trudeau a fair shake or that I am critical of him because he was French Canadian, consider that as Prime Minister he spoke openly of the superiority of a socialist planned economy over a free enterprise one — so much so that Trudeau was close friends with Cuban President Fidel Castro. Castro attended Trudeau’s funeral in October 2000 and stood before the former Prime Minister’s casket. He even ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Cuba for three days.
Obamamania Could Turn Violent
A generation later, America has its own Trudeau, a minority and charismatic leader. And the same social disarray that happened in Canada has begun in the United States, from the George Zimmerman case to race-baiting by the likes of Al Sharpton.
Despite all of Obama’s failings as President, a great many African-Americans think that attacks made against him are mostly due to his skin color.
I can’t accept such nonsense. Obama has proven that he is unfit for the highest office. At the same time, he has made race relations worse, not better.
A recent Newsweek poll came to the same conclusion. Four years ago, 52 percent of Americans told Pew Research Center that they expected race relations to get better as a result of Obama’s election; just 9 percent anticipated a decline. Today, that 43-point gap has vanished. The survey shows that fewer than one-third of Americans believe race relations have improved since the President’s inauguration, while an equal number believe they have gotten worse. If you consider those who say nothing has changed, then you are left with this staggering fact: Six out of 10 Americans believe that race relations have either deteriorated or stagnated under Obama.
Newsweek reported this month that: “Whites are especially critical of Obama’s approach: a majority (51 percent) actually believe he’s been unhelpful in bridging the country’s racial divide. Even blacks have concluded, by a 20-point margin, that race relations have not improved on Obama’s watch.”
The article concludes: “(T)he election of an African-American president now seems to be deepening our divisions rather than diminishing them.”
This divide has grown since the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Florida. According to CNN, blacks are more than twice as likely as whites to say Martin’s death was racially motivated. African-Americans seem convinced that Martin was targeted because he was black, while whites are not so sure.
In fact, blacks overwhelmingly approve of how Obama has handled the controversy, while a majority of whites disapprove.
I don’t know what happened that night between Martin and George Zimmerman because I wasn’t there. You know who else was not there? Obama. But that didn’t stop him from chiming in, just the latest example of Obama using his Presidential podium to inflame race relations.
My expectation is that race-baiting is only going to worsen. In fact, the United States is headed for a no-win situation.
If the President is defeated in November as I hope, I expect millions of blacks to be angry and declare that America couldn’t accept a black President. Violence may even erupt.
And if Obama wins a second term, he will have four more years to continue his socialist programs. As for us critics, we will continue to be branded as “racists” rather than realists.
I saw it happen during the Trudeau years. America can suffer a similar fate or something worse.

Album pertama “Extreme” dan album ketiga “Three Side Story” juga tidak kalah bagusnya. Justru album solo Nuno sendiri dan band barunya Mourning Widows, tidak menampilkan skill dari permainan Nuno sendiri. Bubarnya Extreme cukup mengecewakan penggemar Nuno.
Pada tahun 1982 Nuno pertama kalinya bertemu dengan vokalis Extreme: Gary Cherone. Ini merupakan awal dari band Extreme tsb. 2 tahun kemudian (1984) Nuno meninggalkan sekolahnya dan konsentrasi dalam melatih permainan gitarnya. Nuno melihat drummer Extreme: Mike Mangini di sebuah club di dalam band tribute Van Halen, ketika band-band lain sedang istirahat, Mike memainkan solo drum yang luar biasa.
1985 Nuno bertemu dengan bassist Extreme: Pat Badger yang bekerja di toko gitar Jim Mouradian di Winchester di mana Nuno selalu memodifikasi gitarnya di sana. Nama band mereka pertama kali dinamakan “The Dream” sebelum menggunakan nama “Extreme” dan menghasilkan lagu “Mutha” yang berhasil menerobos jajaran lagu di MTV. Tak lama kemudian nama band mereka diganti menjadi “Extreme” dan tampil di Festival Mare de Agosto (Santa Maria) pada tahun 1986.
Pada tahun 1987 Extreme memenangkan “Outstanding Hard Rock Act” pada tahun pertama Boston Music Awards. Mereka juga memenangkan kontes MTV video, yang ditonton juga oleh perusahaan rekaman A&M A&R scout. Pada bulan Septembernya mereka mendapat kabar baik dari A&M record untuk mulai rekaman.

Dari segi warna musik yang dibawakan Chris memang mirip dengan Yngwie & Rainbow, tetapi dari teknik permainan Chris justru lebih mirip dengan Paul Gilbert. Chris merupakan satu-satunya gitaris yang dapat memainkan alternate picking sekuat, setegas, seakurat dan secepat Paul Gilbert!
Dulu Chris merupakan 3 gitaris yang terpilih sebagai gitaris Alcatrazz, yakni Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen dan Chris sendiri. Jadi Chris memang satu generasi dengan Vai dan Yngwie! Chris membiayai sendiri album instrumental pertamanya pada tahun 1986 dan membentuk group band pertama bersama vocalist Graham Bonnet (Rainbow/MSG), keyboardist Phil Wolfe, bassist Chuck Wright (ex-Quiet Riot), dan drummer Pat Torpey (Mr.Big) pada tahun 1987.
Permainan Chris mencapai puncaknya pada tahun 1992 ketika ia meluncurkan album “Grin and Bear It”, beberapa rekaman Chris sebelum album ini di antaranya: “Impellitteri” (debut – 1987) dan “Stand In Line” (1998) dan video lesson “Speed Soloing” (1989) masih kedengaran kotor sekali alternate pickingnya. Pesatnya kemajuan Chris sangat menakjubkan mulai tahun 1992 tsb, bahkan tahun 2000 ini Chris diwawancara oleh majalah “Young Guitar” untuk interview “Paul Gilbert vs Chris Impellitteri”.

Micheal yang merupakan gitaris yang mungkin yang paling up-to surprise orang yang benar-benar mengenali kehebatannya. Michael Angelo merupakan pemain gitar kanan kiri yang paling baik. Ia bahkan mengklaim sebagai gitaris pertama di dunia yang menjadi spesialis pemain 2 gitar sekaligus.

Pada usia 5 tahun ia mulai belajar piano, dan pada usia 10 tahun ia belajar gitar. sejak usia 19 tahun ia sudah bermain sebagai session player untuk berbagai instansi dan produk seperti Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, United Airlines, United Way, McDonalds, dan tim hoki Chicago Wolves. Ia juga bergabung dengan band Nitro yang beraliran heavy metal.

Oleh majalah Guitar ONE, Michael Angelo terpilih sebagai undefinedNo. 1 Shredder of ALL TIME. Ia berhasil menyisihkan shredder juga John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Shawn Lane, dan Yngwie Malmsteen.

Michael telah merelease beberapa album solo, termasuk: Tidak ada batas-batas (1995), Planet Gemini (1997), dan Hands Without Shadows (2005). Selain itu, video pelajaran yang ia bintangi seperti Speed Kills, Speed Lives, Speed Lives 2, dan pada bulan Februari 2006, merelease Speed Kills 2.

Michael diendorse oleh Dean Guitars. Oleh Dean Guitars ia membuat gitar-gitar signaturenya. Michael bahkan memiliki gitar 4 neck. Andalannya teknik yang sangat populer di-atas adalah teknik yang digeber dengan kecepatan tinggi.

Both seasons are licensed in North America by Funimation Entertainment. The central character of the series is Minato Sahashi, a ronin who failed college examinations twice. His life changes, however, when he meets a girl named Musubi.

Kecamatan Senen terletak di Jakarta Pusat. Kecamatan ini dinamakan menurut Pasar Senen. Di kecamatan ini terletak Stasiun Pasar Senen. Planet Senen (yang meliputi Pasar Senen, Stasiun Senen, Gelanggang Remaja Senen, dan Bioskop Grand) merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para seniman yang dikenal dengan sebutan Seniman Senen.

Sejarah Senen diawali dengan dibukanya Pasar Senen oleh Yustinus Vinck pada tahun 1733. Selain Pasar Senen, Vinck juga membuka Pasar Tanah Abang. Dua tahun berikutnya ia menghubungkan kedua pasar tersebut dengan sebuah jalan, yang sekarang disebut Jl. Prapatan dan Jl. Kebon Sirih yang juga merupakan jalur penghubung timur-barat pertama di Jakarta Pusat kini.
Setelah zaman kemerdekaan hingga tahun 1975, Senen menjadi pusat perdagangan terkemuka di Jakarta. Pada tahun 1974 terjadi tragedi Malari yang memporakporandakan Pasar Senen. Mahasiswa pada saat itu, marah atas kebijakan ekonomi Indonesia yang bergantung pada Jepang. Dan Pasar Senen merupakan simbol dari penjualan produk-produk Jepang.

[sunting] Pusat Perdagangan Ibu Kota

Pada awal abad ke-20, Senen telah menjadi jantung ibu kota dengan denyut perdagangan yang tak pernah berhenti. Beberapa toko besar dan terkenal, banyak berdiri di sepanjang Jalan Kramat Bunder, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jalan Kwitang, dan Jalan Senen Raya. "Apotik Rathkamp" yang setelah kemerdekaan menjadi Kimia Farma, berdiri di seberang Segi Tiga Senen. Di Gang Kenanga terdapat toko sepeda "Tjong & Co". Di Jalan Kramat Bunder terdapat rumah makan terkenal "Padangsche Buffet".^[1] Di Jalan Kwitang terdapat toko buku Gunung Agung. Serta dua bioskop terkenal, Rex Theater (kini Bioskop Grand) dan Rivoli Theater di Jalan Kramat Raya. Di Pasar Senen terdapat toko Djohan Djohor milik saudagar Minangkabau, yang terkenal karena sering memberikan potongan harga.
Pada periode 1960-1970, beberapa toko di atas telah lenyap atau berubah kepemilikan. Pada masa kepemimpinan Ali Sadikin, pemerintah melakukan revitalisasi kawasan Senen, dengan membangun Pusat Perdagangan Senen atau yang lebih dikenal dengan Proyek Senen^[2] Pembangunan Proyek Senen diikuti dengan pasar inpres dan Terminal Senen. Melengkapi Proyek Senen, di tahun 1990 dibangun pula super blok modern, Atrium Senen. Atrium Senen diisi sejumlah tenant internasional, seperti Yaohan dan Mark & Spencer, yang pada akhirnya menarik diri karena krisis ekonomi.
Selain proyek Senen dan Atrium Senen, Senen makin dipadati oleh pedagang informal atau biasa disebut dengan pedagang kaki lima (PKL) yang berjualan disepanjang jalan Kramat dan Kwitang. Jika di sisi Jalan Kramat dipenuhi oleh pedagang-pedagang Minangkabau yang menjual aneka penganan, maka Jalan Kwitang merupakan bursa buku terbesar di Jakarta. Selain di kedua ruas jalan tersebut, di sisi stasiun Pasar Senen yakni kawasan Poncol Senen juga banyak PKL yang menjual barang-barang bekas atau barang-barang selundupan.

[sunting] Seniman Senen

Pada akhir dekade 1930-an, kawasan Senen mulai didatangi oleh anak-anak muda dari seantero Nusantara. Kebanyakan di antara mereka adalah mahasiswa, aktivis, dan pejuang bawah tanah. Di samping itu terdapat pula para pemain sandiwara, pemain musik, pembuat puisi, dan penulis cerita, yang kemudian hari lebih dikenal dengan sebutan "Seniman Senen". Di antara para seniman itu adalah Chairil Anwar. Beliau kerap mondar-mandir, mencari inspirasi dan menulis sajak di pinggiran Stasiun Senen.^[3] Djamaluddin Malik juga merupakan seniman Indonesia yang tumbuh dan besar di kawasan Senen. Di antara para seniman Senen, Djamaluddin dikenal sebagai seorang yang dermawan. Dia menjadi bos atau raja seniman Senen.^[4] Selain nama-nama di atas, para seniman Senen yang kelak menjadi orang-orang sukses antara lain Usmar Ismail, Misbach Yusa Biran, Delsy Syamsumar, Sobron Aidit, Soekarno M. Noer, Wim Umboh, dan Wolly Sutinah.
Dipilihnya Pasar Senen menjadi tempat berkumpulnya para seniman, dikarenakan dekatnya kawasan tersebut dengan Gedung Kesenian Jakarta dan studio film Golden Arrow. Dan dari sini juga, orang bisa mencapai segala penjuru Jakarta dengan biaya amat murah. Pada era 1950-an, tempat kumpul paling ternama adalah kedai Masakan Padang "Ismail Merapi". Di tempat ini, tak hanya para seniman saja yang berkumpul, tetapi juga para pencatut, preman, dan gelandangan. Disini mereka berbaur, hidup dengan penuh kedamaian, dan harmonis.^[5]
Pada tahun 1968, gubernur Jakarta Ali Sadikin meresmikan Taman Ismail Marzuki dan kemudian mendirikan Institut Kesenian Jakarta. Selain sebagai obyek wisata, tempat ini juga diperuntukkan bagi para seniman yang hendak mengembangkan bakat dan kemampuannya. Sejak saat itu, maka mereduplah nama besar Seniman Senen. Kini Cikini dengan Taman Ismail Marzuki-nya, telah menggantikan Planet Senen sebagai tempat pembiakan para seniman muda.

Ketika tiba saat perpisahan, jangan kalian berduka, sebab apa yang kalian kasihi darinya mungkin akan nampak lebih cemerlang dari kejauhan – seperti gunung yang tampak lebih agung terlihat dari padang dan daratan. Jangan ada tujuan lain dari persahabatan kecuali saling memperkaya jiwa. Karena cinta kasih yang masih mengandung pamrih hanyalah jaring yang ditebarkan keudara – hanya menangkap kekosongan semata.
